Thoughts On The QuakeI Remaster

Recently picked up the Quake II remaster that dropped on PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch recently. I remember playing Quake II a lot on the Pentium 1 computers back in High School. From what I remember we mostly played death match so I don't think I got the chance to play through the majority of the campaign.

The days of circle strafing and moving around enemies so they lose line of sight on you have seen a bit of a revival due to the rise of "boomer shooters".

Not surprising that an updated port of a game from 1998 runs at a crisp 60 fps even on the Switch. For $10 you get the original PC Quake 2 campaign - the two official expansion packs: The Recokoning and Ground Zero. Also included is a brand new campaign made by Machine Games - rumoured developers of a Quake Reboot and a port of the single player and multiplayer from the Nintendo 64.

There is a lot of content to chew through for $10 if you enjoy older shooters. I've been playing through parts of the original campaign and the super shotgun is absolutely broken, most enemies just melt :p

There Are So Many Games... I Miss Video Stores

With the recent release of Baulder's Gate 3 and Armored Core VI I could only pick one game… of course I chose the big robots.

But it made me nostalgic for video stores. As crummy as it was to get a game disc that didn't work because it was all scratched up or going for a single game only to find it out of stock - it's still. It paying nearly $100 CDN per game.

Sure a 3 day rental would probably be like $15 now (it was $6 CDN back in 2004). But got some games a weekend is really all you need.
